Account of an execution at the house of a land elder of Lublin

Sub-delegate of the castle court of Krasnystaw, Marcin Grotkowski, along with the witnesses Ludwik Podgórski and Szymon Michalski and the beadle, Stanisław Staher, conducted an execution in Bełżyce in the house of a Jew, Marek Fiszlowicz, carrying out the decree of the tax tribunal in Radom of 17th June 1757 in the case between Teodor Suchodolski, the Starost of Omelnice, the landlord of Piaski, together with the local synagogue, and the land elders of Lublin: Józef Sendrowicz from Opole, Jochym, the rabbi of Lubartów, Lejba from Kurów and Marek Fiszlowicz from Bełżyce, accused of inflating the amount of poll tax for the Jews from Piaski. Marek Fiszlowicz stated that although the land elders of Lublin had concluded an agreement with the kahal in Piaski, the date of its validity expired. He explained that the Jews from Piaski were obliged to pay the Jewish poll tax according to general rules without being given any tax reliefs, and that the final settlement of the case between the parties would take place in the tribunal of Radom.
